Help Us Bring a Smile Back to Unfortunate Kids

It’s slightly more than a year now since the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia (Persatuan Impian Kanak-Kanak Malaysia) was registered.

Aimed at raising awareness on the plight of the unfortunate children around us who face hardship, pain and the prospect of not being able to fight the illness that has afflicted them, CWS Malaysia embarked on a mission to raise the necessary public funds to help bring a spark of light in the darkest hour of a child’s life.

Almost everyday there is a child out there who is dying of an illness that has drained their chance of a normal life – enjoying their childhood; growing up and having a family of their own.

CWS Malaysia raises much needed funds to respond to such cases. In the last one year, several cases had been brought to our attention. The smile on our first recipient, Ooi Hon Lim 11, still lingers in our mind. The “Thank You” he expressed when he received his portable DVD player still echoes in our mind. His memory stays on with us although he is no longer with us.

All our efforts will come to nought if not for the generous support of the public and corporate sector. Through fundraising drives and publicity via the media, CWS Malaysia has managed to spread the word out to the whole country on how you and I can  help bring a smile back to our little unfortunate ones.

A minimum RM1 donation brings us a long way in being able to respond quickly to a request. Time is obviously of the essence once a wish comes in. It is treated almost like the wish must be fulfilled “yesterday”.

Due care and diligence is taken when administering the funds generously donated by the public. Our accounts are audited and all requirements of the law are adhered to.

This July, CWS Malaysia together with its various corporate partners and generous individuals will once again embark on it’s 2nd fundraising event – the Charity Durian Fest. Once again, we have the generosity of Subang Parade who have offered us for the second time around to host and sponsor the event.

It is our hope many partners will come forward to help us raise crucial funds for the Society. Join us and be part of those who wish to place a glitter in a child’s eyes when his/her wish is fulfilled.

Call us at 03-5632 4941 or email us at cwsmalaysia@cwsmalaysia.com to find out how you can help.

Thank you

Introducing CWS Malaysia

21 05 2009

Thank you for visiting CWS Malaysia’s Official Website!

This is our new temporary home while our web mistress weaves her creativity to build our official presence in the World Wide Web.

First, let us introduce you to our founding Board members who have graciously and generously devoted their time and energy to making it possible for us all to help bring a smile back to the unfortunate children around us who have been stricken with terminal illnesses or life-threatening illnesses.

Here’s our line up of Board Members:

What is CWS Malaysia all about?

In the words of our President, Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam “CWS as we call ourselves, is a very new organisation, set up primarily to aid children suffering from terminal and life-threatening illnesses, by granting them a wish. Through CWS, we hope to be able to bring as many smiles back to children among us who are suffering from incurable diseases. We can give the family some time together by granting a special wish that their child might make. It could be a toy, a trip or to meet a special person or celebrity. It allows them to put aside what is on the horizon if only for a short time and this is something worth doing.”

Presentation of Cheque by Wesley Methodist School

20 04 2009

CWS_Wesley chequeCWS was privileged to be a recipient of funds raised by this wonderful team of students and staff of Wesley Methodist School. On the morning of April 20, we were invited to a cheque presentation ceremony. The cheque was presented by the school Principal, Mrs. Vimala Mathews and Grace Lim, representing The WMS Interact Club was on stage with us. CWS is very fortunate to be the recipient of such generosity. The money raised by the school with the jogathon was shared by a number of charities and this speaks volumes about the awareness of children at such an age. They are leading by example and that is such a wonderful thing to see and experience. Thank you Wesley Methodist School and all who played a part in making this happen!

Wesley Methodist School Fund-Raising Jogathon 14 February 2009

14 02 2009

CWS_Jogathon2About 1000 students and staff of Wesley Methodist School in Sentul East organized a fund-raising event to raise funds for a number of charities. CWS had been selected as one of the charities to receive a portion of the funds raised. This event, which was organized and run by the students of the WMS Interact Club, was a major success. At this time of writing, the total amount raised is still being calculated.

CWS_WMSjogathon1The event started at 7:30 in the morning on Saturday, February 14 and had the students run a course that was set up in the Lake Gardens Park area. A great environment with cool morning air made this event an easy run for all the runners and joggers.

CWS_Jogathon3Children’s Wish Society Executive Director, Allan Hubbert, was privileged to be present to participate in this event with a short address at the start and to help distribute the prizes at the end. These are a great bunch of kids and the social conscience and awareness they have speaks volumes about each and every one of them.

We sincerely thank Grace Lim and Su-Yen Chia from the WMS Interact Club for inviting us to be a part of their event.

Affiz Gets His Wish!

13 12 2008

CWS_Affiz

When Affiz Herrie B Rosraimi was at University Hospital and was asked by his doctor, Prof Dr. Wan Ariffin, what he would like as a Wish from The Children’s Wish Society, he was very shy to answer. Diagnosed at 2 years of age with leukemia type ALL High Risk, he has been fighting this illness for the last 8 years. CWS had learnt of his condition through Prof Dr. Wan Ariffin.

With the cooperation of his mom, Mariam bt A Rahman, CWS executive director Allan Hubbert, paid him a visit at his home in Cheras, to see if he would share what would make him really happy. Again, he was very shy to answer but answer he did. Two days later, on Saturday, December 13, CWS board member Dr. Su-Lin Chong and Allan returned to fulfill his wish. He was presented with a new laptop computer, several DVD movies and 2 games that he had requested. The wonderful smile on his face as he unwrapped the gifts, made it all worthwhile. With him to enjoy his gift were his two brothers, Affiq Hirzie and Affif Danial, his sister Affify Nadwin, their nephew Hisham, a friend Khairul and his mom. He is the second youngest in a family of four children and all four children are all very close. Everyone present was just delighted and so happy for him.

ALL or acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a cancer of the white blood cells. These cells normally help to fight infection. According to his mother, Mariam bt A Rahman, Affiz has been in remission twice. The last time was in 2005. Now at age 10, he is hopeful that he can attend school. His mom, Mariam, has taken a leave of absence from her employer to spend time taking care of his needs.
Persatuan Impian Kanak-kanak Malaysia or The Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia was established earlier this year to help by granting wishes to children with life threatening illnesses. Our only desire is to see a child smile when we fulfill a wish and when that happens, we are just so happy to have been a part of it. Our ability to grant wishes like this is made possible with the generous support of our Society members and the business community who provide us with the funds. We are so honoured to be able to work with the Hospitals and doctors in Malaysia who refer patients to us. For more information on PIKKM or CWS, you can email us at: cwsmalaysia@cwsmalaysia.com

Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP) students at Sunway University College raised RM5,000 and gave it all to the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia (CWS) recently in a desire to touch the lives of little ones.
The funds came from fund-raising activities organised by the various CIMP student councils such as the Halloween Dance, sale of T-shirts and the sale of “Anthology of Student Writings” by students taking English in the programme. CIMP director Terry Boucher said “I am very proud of the CIMP students who have committed their time and effort for the community which expands their understanding of the world and their potential to make a difference amidst the frailty of lives.”“We are happy to help the CWS, a worthy organization that deserves all of our help.”“This is a fantastic initiative by the students and to see what the youngsters are doing speaks volumes for them. My thanks to all of them and to Antonio Sarno too, the CIMP teacher for thinking of us,” he added.
CWS is a national charity organisation set up with the objective of granting wishes to children afflicted with terminal diseases. CWS executive director Allan Hubbert received the cheque from the students. The Pro-Chancellor of Sunway University College, Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Ramon Navaratnam who is the President of the CWS was present to witness the event.
